Exploring Texas Hill Country AVA with Barbara Lecuona of Siboney Cellars
Join us on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET for a wine tasting with Barbara Lecuona from Siboney Cellars. During our tasting event, Barbara will talk about being a woman winemaker producing in this up-and-coming wine region.
Barbara has been interested in wine since her earliest trip to Napa and Sonoma in the 1990s, but it was her first trip to Bordeaux in 2007 with her husband, Miguel, that really sparked her interest in viticulture and winemaking. Visiting and tasting at several First and Second Growth Chateaux, and speaking directly with the winemakers had her tasting and thinking about wine in a very different way. After that trip, both Barbara and Miguel began pursuing education opportunities, with Miguel earning his Court of Masters pin and a second MBA in wine marketing from INSEEC in Bordeaux, and Barbara completing all levels of education at the Wine School of Philadelphia.
Although she was born in Pennsylvania, she got to Texas as fast as she could! That arrival opened an entirely new world of possibility, and Barbara was quickly committed to spreading the word about the excellent wine being made in Texas out of 100% Texas grown grapes. She began working with several top vineyards in Texas, as well as working harvest and crush in 2016 for a premium, small production winery. While working in tasting rooms, in vineyards and as a cellar rat for a number of years for other wineries gaining the experience needed to carry out her dream of owning and operating a craft premium winery, Barbara completed 4 years of Viticulture and Enology studies at Texas Tech University, as well as Master’s level studies at Bordeaux Sciences Agro.
After meeting and working with so many amazing people in the wine business since 2007, Barbara and Miguel started their own 100% Texas winery. It’s called Siboney Cellars. In 2017 and 2018 Siboney (See-Bo-NAY) created about 1000 cases and introduced Siboney to Texas wine lovers and collectors.
In 2019, Siboney Cellars was thrilled to announce and welcome new partners, Bill and Mary Anne Waldrip, to the #TxWine industry. The partnership announced plans for a permanent home for Siboney Cellars at the newly acquired 52 acre site on Wine Road 290 near Johnson City. Barbara produced about 3000 cases from the precocious 2019 harvest, as well as the unforgettable 2020 harvest.
Event registration will close at 11:59pm on Tuesday, September 28th, 2021 so be sure to register today.
