“ZINFANDEL - The American Dream!”
Bring on the reds! It’s the middle of winter and it is the perfect time for lip-smacking red wines that will warm you right down to your toes. Zinfandel is a red grape (almost more black in color) that makes a rich red wine. However, the name often gets confused with its pink alter-ego. That wine is called “White Zinfandel”, and although it is made from the same grape, it is a completely different flavor profile. The pink version is made by pressing the juice off the red zin skins early on so the deep color is not transmitted. Red Zinfandel is a completely different animal. It is fermented dry, and the juice is allowed to sit on the skins long enough to extract that incredibly dark purple color. These wines are often quite high in alcohol, sometimes clocking in at close to 15% abv. Its ancestry has been the subject of many debates throughout the years. But one thing is for sure. Zinfandel has become one of California’s most worshipped wines. Come and join Holly in the new “Classroom at Marketview” as we immerse ourselves in the grape that America calls its own! Warning: dark lip coloration may occur.
In addition, there will be small individual plates of Zinfandel-friendly foods, such as Cheese, Bread, Fruit & Chocolate available as well.
