Blind tasting is one of the most difficult yet rewarding processes as a wine student, and plays an integral part of nearly every top level wine qualification in the world. Often misunderstood, blind tasting doesn't literally mean tasting a wine without being able to see it, but tasting a wine with no idea of provenance, grape varieties, vintage or any evidence really other than the liquid in front of you. Whether you want to become a Master of Wine, a Master Sommelier or any of the levels below these two qualifications, blind tasting can be a very important part of both your training and, eventual examinations. (And hey, it can just be plain old fun, too)! Join us, along with Lucy Stork to explore the world of blind tastings!
About Lucy
Lucy moved to the Finger Lakes 10 years ago to begin her career in the wine industry. While studying Viticulture at Finger Lakes Community College she began her first internship at Fox Run Vineyards where she gained valuable experience in both the vineyard and wine cellar. After spending some time working in the production side of the industry Lucy decided that the front facing part of the wine industry was truly where she belonged so she began selling wine for small producers on Keuka Lake & became a member of the FLX Chapter of WWS!
Throughout her years working in sales, her then friends, and now bosses, Christopher Bates and Isabel Bogadtke, would regularly ask, “when are you going to come work for us?". Eager to dip her toe in the sommelier pond, Lucy began working for F.L.X. Hospitality in 2019 and currently acts as the Brand Ambassador for the company and Element Winery alike. After a couple years of studying and many, many blind tastings Lucy passed her Certified Sommelier exam with the Court of Master Sommeliers earlier this year.
